An awareness campaign has been launched to educate the public on the importance of forests and environmental protection in Kosovo.
This comprehensive awareness and education campaign on the importance of forests and their protection will aim to promote forest values, including youth, schoolchildren, women and communities living in rural areas.
The main focus of this campaign is the media promotion of various forest results and activities, which have been organized in different areas of Kosovo. The campaign begins with video messages from forest camps for social networks, aiming to increase public awareness of the importance of forests and their sustainable use. These video messages introduce the themes of forest camps as educational spaces for young people and members of rural communities. The content of the video messages emphasizes the topics of trainings, discussions and practical activities, and the contribution of forests to the preservation of ecosystems, their role in coping with climate change and their importance for the sustainable economic, social and environmental development of the country.
Another focus of this campaign is also the promotion of the role of women in the forestry sector. Women in Kosovo have an irreplaceable role in the management and use of forest products, contributing to the economic well-being of their families and communities. Through these activities, the active participation of women is being promoted, gender stereotypes are being challenged and new opportunities are being created in a sector that has traditionally been dominated by men.
The campaign will present the students’ messages to the public with a video of a lesson, where the role and importance of forests is discussed. The lessons and debates with students were held in the four largest regions of Kosovo, namely Prishtina, Peja, Prizren and Gjilan. During this lesson, students share their knowledge about forests, nature and the environment by sharing this information with each other and with teachers, with the aim of raising awareness for the conservation and protection of forests.
The campaign will be developed mainly through social media in four rounds and, among other things, three documentaries will be published that will reveal the values of Kosovo’s forests, their economic, environmental and social potential and the involvement of local communities and women in forestry.
This campaign is part of the program “Support for strengthening sustainable and multipurpose forest management to improve livelihoods in rural areas and address climate change in Kosovo”, which is being implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations – FAO, with funding from the European Union and Sweden.
